Grades
Grades are weighted in percentages according to the following categories:
**Absentees & Make up: Students who are absent are responsible for their own make-up work by logging on the class webpage to make up for missed activities, annotations, projects, tests and quizzes. Work must be turned in within one week for full credit. After the given week, work is considered late and will only be accepted for half credit until the end of the unit. Students are encouraged to share their composition books to make up important notes. The class calendar is both online and in class were they can obtain the weeks assignments.**
Classroom Rules
The teacher will adhere to the District Policies posted on the district website. However the following rules are strictly enforced:
Spanish 1 is a program based on the five C’s
- Communication – From bell to bell, students are engaged in a variety of oral activities
- Culture – Students learn facts and information about the varied cultures, histories, and geographies of the Spanish speaking world.
- Connection – Students will use the knowledge they already possess in the native language and apply it to the target language.
- Comparison – How does the target language impact their daily lives?
- Communities – Languages, or the ability to speak them, allows us to connect globally.
- School Loop/Class website – I post the daily objectives, lessons, and activities on School Loop. The link is accessible through the school’s webpage. There is no need for the student to miss out on activities when absent.
- Infinite Campus – The current grading system for the Temecula Valley Unified School District and is available 24/7. I post and update grades regularly.
- E-mail – This is the most efficient method of communication for the parent and student. [email protected]
- Phone – My phone number at the school is (951)695-7300 ext.3231
Class Materials
- Composition Book – Used for annotation of daily objectives, notes, and important information.
- Loose Leaf Paper/Spiral Notebook – For the completion of activities based on the information in the composition book.
- ¡Exprésate! Textbook – Students will utilize this book for some homework assignments.
- Cuaderno de Vocabulario y Gramatica – Class set provided.
- Cuentos y Cultura Literature Workbooks – Class set provided.
- Recomended – A Spanish/English dictionary for use at home and/or school. This may prove more useful and easier than online translator.
Grades
Grades are weighted in percentages according to the following categories:
- Classwork/Homework/Daily Participation – 40%
- Students are responsible for daily work and keeping up with due dates. A rigorous pace is set in order to maximize class time. Late work is accepted for 50% credit and it must be turned in before the end of a unit. The teacher will announce when the last day late work will be accepted per unit.
- Projects/Tests/Quizzes – 50%
- Tests and quizzes are summative. They will evaluate the acquisition of concepts studied and learned in class. It is recommended that students study daily. All tests and quizzes come directly from the material studied, and thus there are no re-takes offered.
- All projects are oral and graded according to a specific rubric. This rubric is provided to the student at the beginning of the year and should be attached to the composition book for frequent referral.
- Semester Final – 10%
- One Written Final per semester

Classroom Rules
The teacher will adhere to the District Policies posted on the district website. However the following rules are strictly enforced:
- Mutual respect - To the teacher as well as other students is the single most important aspect in this classroom. Don’t do what you wouldn’t like to be done to you or at you. Show respect to your peers and to the teacher, and essentially any other rule won’t need to be addressed. Insubordination and disrespect to others will not be tolerated.
- Be On Time - In your seat when the bell rings. If in class before the bell rings, be in your seat and act civilized. No disruptions will be tolerated.
- Cell phones, earphones, and other electronic devices - Should be placed in cellphone parking (assigned pouches) unless the assignment requires it. This includes wireless headphones (NFC,Bluetooth, etc.) These will be confiscated and/or taken to campus supervision if seen. No electronic devices allowed unless the activity requires it.
- Leave your work area as clean or cleaner than you found it - Beverages and snacks are generally allowed. If trash is left behind by anyone, the entire class will loose this benefit.
- Treat school and personal property with respect - Do not write/tag desks or other school property. Vandalism is considered a crime by authorities. Student will be written up for vandalism, other classroom damage, or others personal property.
- Students must remain in assigned seat - No switching seats or walking over to other students seats. Students must be in their assigned seat at all times unless otherwise allowed. No throwing of trash until lesson/notes
- No leaving the classroom without permission - Requests are generally granted, but student must ask prior to leaving the classroom. (A simple hand gesture may suffice). No stepping out during a lesson; unless it is urgent. Students will lose this privilege if abused. Students must use class pass when stepping out of class.
